Full-area wolf monitoring in the Czech and Saxon Switzerland National Park

On Monday December 13, 2021, in cooperation with colleagues from the Czech and German national parks, full-area monitoring took place. The aim was to map the activity of wolves on fresh snow cover, where it is possible to determine the number of individuals, take samples for DNA analysis and trace important wolf habitats. Despite the bad weather (night thaw), the centers were located in two wolf territories in both national parks. In the case of the territory in the northern part of the Czech National Park, itis most likely a new settlement.

Despite the fact that the conditions were not ideal, the whole event was a success and together we agreed to repeat the monitoring next year.

We thank our colleagues from both national parks and look forward to further cooperation in 2022.
