Two wolves were collared in Šluknov region

The trapping team, composed not only of representatives of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, but also project partners from the Senckenberg Natural Museum in Görlitz and the Lupus Institute, celebrated success at the beginning of May 2022. The wolf was captured, collared and released back into the wild.

The entire event was preceded by weeks of preparation, it was necessary to select suitable trapping sites, ensure safety for people and domestic animals, prepare traps and a system of two independent warnings in case the trap is triggered. Wolves are very shy and cautious animals, so the trapping team had to take care not to leave any scent marks or significant changes in the terrain at the place of capture. The reward for precision and patience was a female wolf, which was caught on May 2 on the northern edge of the Šluknov region, and a week later another male joined her. They both weighed 35 kg and were given a GPS collar that will monitor their movements and thus reveal more information about the behavior and ecology of wolves in the Czech borderlands.
